Pinhole image entitled 'Con Cafetera' | Artist; Silvia González de León PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY – SUMMER WORKSHOP This intensive week-long summer workshop offered a comprehensive introduction to the exciting world of pinhole photography. In this practical, hands-on course, participants made their own pinhole camera, took their own pictures, and developed and printed their own photographs in the darkroom. UPDATE: 2008 Pinhole Photography Workshop; details here The course was ideal for both young people or adults. No photographic experience was necessary. All equipment/materials were supplied. From their base in the Gallery of Photography, participants went by foot to selected locations for shoots, returning to the Gallery of Photography darkrooms for processing and printing their work. The Gallery wish to thank both the participants and course leaders for making this one of the most enjoyable and creative workshops ever held in the Gallery. The images displayed in the online gallery are testiment to that The workshop participants pictured here alongside a selection of the unique pinhole cameras they constructed and used during the course. Silvia González de León is one of the leading international practitioners of pinhole photography. Silvia’s solo exhibition ‘Cardboard & Light’ will be on show concurrently.
Darragh Shanahan is an experienced photographer and educator, and a member of staff at the Gallery of Photography.
DRAFT PROGRAMME
Understanding the principles behind pinhole photography. Making pinhole cameras from cardboard, cocoa tins, etc.
Making exposures with pinhole cameras, drawing on the ‘Objects & Me’ series in the exhibition at the Gallery of Photography. Developing and printing work in the darkroom.
Portraiture/ self-portraiture sessions with participants’ own pinhole cameras and with a 6x6-format camera. Developing and printing work in the darkroom.
